Excel & data analysis training your team can claim back

Foundation spreadsheets to OLAP pivot tables, dashboards and Power Query — HRD Corp claimable, delivered by Carriera Academy.

By Steph Eng · Carriera·Updated 17 June 2026
The short answer

Carriera Academy Sdn Bhd runs HRD Corp claimable Excel and data analysis training for Malaysian teams — from foundation spreadsheet skills through to OLAP pivot tables, dashboards and Power Query. As an HRD Corp Approved Training Provider, our programmes are fundable under the SBL-Khas scheme, delivered live online via Zoom.

Spreadsheets quietly run most Malaysian businesses — the monthly P&L, the stock report, the payroll reconciliation, the sales dashboard the boss actually reads. Yet the gap between a team that fumbles VLOOKUP and one that builds a self-refreshing OLAP report is enormous, and it compounds every reporting cycle. Carriera's Excel & Data Analysis theme exists to close that gap with practical, role-applied training your corporate training budget can fund from the levy you already pay.

§ 01
The levels

What levels of Excel and data analysis training are there?

Carriera's Excel and data analysis training runs across three broad levels — foundation, intermediate analysis, and advanced OLAP and pivot work — so a programme can be matched to what your team actually produces rather than a generic syllabus. We deliberately avoid one-size-fits-all "Excel basics"; the strongest sessions tie each skill to a real report your finance, operations or HR team owns.

LevelWhat it coversWho it suits
FoundationConfident spreadsheet work — structured tables, core formulas, formatting, clean data entry and basic chartsAdmin, junior finance, anyone inheriting messy sheets
Intermediate analysisLookup and dynamic-array formulas (XLOOKUP, FILTER), single-table pivot tables, conditional logic, reporting layoutsExecutives and analysts who build recurring reports
Advanced — OLAP & Power QueryOLAP pivot tables against a data model, PivotCharts, dashboards, and data cleaning and shaping with Power QueryFinance, FP&A, operations and analytics leads

At the top of that ladder sits our OLAP Pivot Table programme. An OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) pivot table connects Excel to a multi-dimensional data model, so a user can slice a large dataset by dimensions — month, product, branch, customer — without rebuilding the sheet each time the data changes. It is the difference between rekeying a report every month and refreshing one with a click. Alongside it sit complementary titles in this theme such as Advanced Excel and Data Analysis with Power Query, which exist in our live catalogue. Specific dates and fees live on the training page, which loads the current schedule from our system so it never goes stale here.

The win is not knowing more formulas. It is turning a half-day of manual reporting into a one-click refresh — every single month.
§ 02
Claimable status

Is Excel and data analysis training HRD Corp claimable?

Yes — Excel and data analysis training is HRD Corp claimable in Malaysia when it is delivered by an HRD Corp Approved Training Provider and registered as an HRD Corp Claimable Course under the SBL-Khas scheme. Carriera Academy Sdn Bhd holds Approved Training Provider status, so our programmes qualify; the employer must be HRD Corp registered with a sufficient levy balance and no arrears.

The funding mechanism is the SBL-Khas scheme (Skim Bantuan Latihan Khas, the HRD Corp Claimable Courses route). HRD Corp states that under the scheme "the course fee will be debited from the employer's account," so eligible employers spend a levy they already contribute rather than fresh cash (supportcentre.hrdcorp.gov.my). That levy is itself a statutory cost: HRD Corp's registered-employers page states that for employers with 10 or more Malaysian employees "the monthly levy is charged at the rate of 1% of the monthly wages of employees," while employers with 5 to 9 employees may register optionally at 0.5%.

Two cautions worth stating plainly. HRD Corp notes a training provider "may request for a maximum upfront payment of 30%, based on the total approved course fee" — so any upfront portion is capped, not the full fee — and that an "[e]mployer with outstanding levy and interest are not eligible to apply for the financial assistance" (SBL-Khas scheme page). The grant must also be approved before training begins. For the deeper question of exactly what makes a spreadsheet course claimable, see our companion guide on whether Excel training is HRD Corp claimable; for the full claim mechanics, read the HRD Corp claim guide.

Levy rates, the 30% upfront cap and the arrears rule above are quoted from HRD Corp's official pages (linked inline) as verified on 17 June 2026; confirm your own eligibility directly with HRD Corp, as scheme rules can change.

§ 03
Who should attend

Which teams get the most from this training?

Excel and data analysis training pays back fastest for the people who already live in spreadsheets but were never formally taught them — finance, operations, HR and analytics. The clearest signal you need it is a recurring report that takes hours of copy-paste, or a team that distrusts its own numbers. Below is who typically attends, and the skill that moves the needle for each.

01

Finance & FP&A

Pivot tables, dashboards and OLAP reporting that turn the monthly close into a refresh, not a rebuild.

02

Operations

Power Query to clean and consolidate messy source data from multiple systems into one repeatable report.

03

HR & payroll

Lookup and dynamic-array formulas for headcount, payroll reconciliation and leave reporting without manual matching.

04

Sales & analytics

PivotCharts and KPI dashboards that put performance on one screen instead of a sprawl of tabs.

This theme sits alongside Carriera's wider catalogue — tax and e-Invoice, Employment Act and payroll, financial analysis and budgeting, and AI for productivity. If your reporting pain spans more than spreadsheets, we can scope a blended programme. Across recruitment and training, Carriera has worked with 50+ companies.

§ 04
Format & register

How are sessions run, and how do we register?

Sessions are delivered live online via Zoom, typically running 9am to 5pm, so your team can attend from anywhere in Malaysia with no travel or venue cost. Registering is a short, human process — there is no automated checkout, because most employers want to confirm dates and SBL-Khas claim details first.

FAQ

Common questions about Excel & data training

Is Carriera's Excel and data analysis training HRD Corp claimable?
Yes. Carriera Academy Sdn Bhd is an HRD Corp Approved Training Provider, so its Excel and data analysis programmes are eligible for funding under the SBL-Khas (HRD Corp Claimable Courses) scheme. The employer must be HRD Corp registered with a sufficient levy balance and no arrears, and the grant must be approved before the training starts.
What level of Excel training does Carriera run?
Carriera runs Excel and data analysis programmes across three broad levels: foundation spreadsheet skills, intermediate analysis and reporting, and advanced OLAP pivot tables, dashboards and Power Query. We scope the level to your team's real reports rather than running generic Excel basics, and the current bookable programmes are listed on the training page.
What is an OLAP pivot table and who needs it?
An OLAP pivot table connects Excel to a multi-dimensional data model so users can slice large datasets by dimensions such as month, product or region without rebuilding the sheet each time. It suits finance, operations and analytics teams who produce recurring management reports and want to move beyond single-table pivots.
Do we pay for the Excel course upfront?
For eligible employers using SBL-Khas, no full upfront payment to the provider is normally required, because the approved course fee is debited from your HRD Corp levy account. HRD Corp notes a training provider may request a maximum upfront payment of 30% of the total approved course fee, so any upfront portion is capped.
How do we register for an Excel or data analysis programme?
Choose a programme on Carriera's training page or message us on WhatsApp. Our team confirms availability by email, then sends the invoice. For HRD Corp registered employers, the course can be processed as an SBL-Khas claim against the levy. Sessions run online via Zoom, typically 9am to 5pm.
